The Art of Procurement

While getting for work today, I saw the reports of the crazed Black Friday shoppers lined up in cold, damp weather waiting for the early bird specials. Police have been dispatched to keep these people from injuring one another while waiting on line.

I simply don’t get it. What is the draw? I understand that there are some super deals out there but they must know that each store is only going to have five 50 inch plasma televisions available. Supply and demand, I get that too.

Seriously folks, have you tried online shopping? Right now all items are shipped for free to the comfort of your home or office. Plenty of deals to be found on the internets try it.

Stop the madness or at least give me a legitimate reason. I’ll be at work waiting with baited breath for an explanation.

For the love of Santa, be careful out there. Remember, He knows who has been naughty and who has been nice.

Uh Wicked, I think they may all be shopping. Probably the reason for no response.

Maybe later....

Shopping on Black Friday is something I wouldn't consider. I just hate unruly crowds. And as you said, the great deals are not readily available.

Have a nice weekend, and I'm sorry you have to work today.

Phillip: Of course, you are right.

Cassie: You too, it hasn't been too bad.

This is not just an American/Thanksgiving phenom, the Brits are as crazy with the first day of the January sales, that, by the way, usually start on Boxing Day.

It must be the draw of a good bargain.

Maybe it's the thrill of the conquest. Human beings, despite iPods and Argyle socks, are still pretty primitive with the crusade mentality. People who aren't good at ANYTHING 364 days out of the year finally have the opportunity to kick ass whilst also managing to acquire something totally banal like a $4.99 off-brand waffle iron. That kind of temptation is hard to beat when the big highlight of your usual week is sitcom television.

Also, it's kind of fun to watch the mommies fight over the last limited edition Cabbage Patch doll.

I've never understood Black Friday shopping, even with all of the "great deals."

Eh...they're never having a sale on what I'm getting people for Christmas anyway. It's always the big ticket items. Maybe when I win the lottery.

well, it's just WONDERFUL and something that can't be explained. Only experienced.

Like, great sex.
