The Bird Feeder

This post is not meant to spread hate. As the product of a set of parents who emigrated to this country legally, the latest protests and such hit a nerve with me. My blog, my opinion.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it is as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table...everywhere!

Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.

And others birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let's see..... our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, and free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen.

Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor.

Illegals are also squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder. If you agree, pass it on; if not, continue cleaning up the poop!

And a very well-written opinion it is.
You know what makes me crazy?
All the money that gets shot up into space.
Could you imagine what we could do with that money here on earth?

Hi Wicked. After reading your entire blog, I decided to stop being a lurker and comment. I've added you to my favorites. Great site!

Very insightful. The situation has grown to absurd proportions. I wish the answer was that simple, but I doubt it will be.

I just love analogies. And this one works well. Imagine having to learn the language of the birds because they demanded you deal with them in their language. And then things went downhill from there.

I've been saying that for years. We are giving out free healthcare to some illegals and there is no sense in it when they can get FREE medical care where ever they belong because they have a nationalized healthcare system and we don't.

Well said... if you want in, get in legally! Until you're legal, you shouldn't have any rights because, well, you're illegal!

It's a shame that you would even have to begin the post with a disclaimer that you are not "spreading hate".

What you've said is logical and rational, but unfortunately, in this day if you mention that maybe illegal immigration is a problem, you run the risk of being called a fascist or a racist.

Also, did you see the recent New York Times article about how US immigration restrictions are actually creating jobs in Mexico? Basically, many farmers are moving their operations to Mexico and employing Mexicans in their own country.

As someone who emigrated to this country legally myself, and has taken the steps to learn the language, become a citizen, get an education and become a productive member of society in a country I now call MY COUNTRY...I agree completely with you.

This self-entitlement so many people seem to have about life just gets under my skin. You want something? Work for it. You want rights? Earn them.

My grandparents did it, my parents did it, I did it, my kids, whenever I have them, will do it too.
