Wanted – Acting Lessons

It must just be me.

Could I possibly be the only woman on the planet who does not enjoy any type of shower? Wedding, Baby - none of it.

When the genes for shower adoration were being passed out, I must have been in the extra sarcasm line. It’s not that I am jealous or dislike the shower recipient; I just don’t have the warm and fuzzy feeling while each gift is being opened.

Here, I will practice the typical reactions heard during the gift reveal:
1) Oooooooo
2) Ahhhhhh
3) Awwwww
4) That would look perfect on the baby/in your new home/on your wedding night.

Good, right? Help me. Have I missed any of the key audible responses? I need you!

Perhaps a dose of insulin is indicated. You know for all the sweetness.

Wish me luck!

I thought I was the only one who didn't like showers, I wouldn't have showed up @ my own if it wasn't for the gifts. I've given a few, been to like 3 others. That's it.
I think it goes with the whole having to do something on command, maybe it will be a good time, maybe not but you could be bored out of your skull for 3 or 4 hours!

OH, you are so not alone. I hate showers as well. baby, wedding, rain...they all do nothing for me. ;0)

I prefer to sit in the back and make snide comments instead of the usual oohing and aahing. Showers make me feel a bit like I'm at the dentist's office. Uncomfortable and a bit nauseous.

I'd rather send a gift and have "other plans that day" if possible. I thought it was just me being anti-social :) Glad to know I'm not the only one!

The silly games, the fruity punch, the artifical attitude is off putting. I ignore shower invitations - feels like it is a demand on my time and a demand for a gift. I seem to lose the invitations. If I care for the person, I will of course honor the occasion with a gift from my heart, not one that is mandatory for shower attendance. Thanks for your post and wishing you the best.

I don't hate them but I'm not in love with them. The older I get, the more I value my time and guard it jealously. I go to be polite.

Don't forget the good fun of making and wearing a bow hat!

Ohhh I do not like baby showers. I couldn't have kids and finally adopted them. Baby showers are like sharp knives going in my chest. And don't ask me to touch the belly..sheesh.

I can not stand them. Usually if they are having one for a fellow coworker of mine I say I have other plans and just bring a gift in to her. I can't stand large masses of female bonding!

You are not alone!

I am glad to know it's not just me. A good time was had by all - it is just not my thing. I had scheduled an evening with cocktails to follow so my day ended well. Good suggestions, I will use them for next time - that is if the next time is a required work event. Otherwise, I will send a gift and wish the recipient well.

Thanks All!

Volunteer to be the person to write down who gave what for the recipient so they can write thank you notes later. It keeps me sane.

I don't think anyone likes showers. I haven't been to any, and I don't like them. Why? Because my fiance has to buy a million gifts, show up with a shit-eating grin and then go to some other one a few months later. They're just gift collection meeting, and soon it will be my fiance's turn to rob, er milk, er...have people over to celebrate our impending nuptials.
